Eckhart Tolle's beautiful gift

My therapist suggested I read the Power Of Now several months back.  it was such an incredible experience I found the A New Earth book before it hit Oprah.  His books gave me an incredible gift of being able to feel less lost when emotions start happening.  I tend to not swirl down as far, or have as difficult of time coming out.

Tired

Sheesh.  Getting my house ready to sell, and phone interviews almost everyday last week are getting a little tiring.  I am tired.

The house market here isn't great, so all the work I have put into fixing the house up won't be coming back to me.  The market being the way it is there is no guarantees prices won't dip, so I am cutting my losses and hoping I get some of my down payment back.

I glance at house prices in Seattle - good god.  I am not going to even think about that for a while.  It looks like I will be able to rent a decent house at less than my current mortgage, so I should be good to go.

I have some interesting interviews coming up, still hoping to hear from a couple of Microsoft positions that really interested me.  Will let you all know if I will be flying up any time soon.

Wish me luck on the house sell - it should be ready to go on the market this Tuesday.

I go up to the MS site and I see this headline: Choose from new PCs designed to help eliminate AIDS in Africa

My first thought is - PCs and Condoms?  Next thought is - What PC have they created that is passing AIDS?  What new sex toy have I not heard about?

I didn't bother actually looking at the link itself.

Snow!!

We got between 6-8 inches of snow last night.  I think they must have stored some of the snow plows for the summer because the roads were just a mess.  On my way to work I passed a vehicle that had slide off the road, down a short hill, and had flipped upside down into a large ditch.  Two more accidents had occured before I reached my destination.

I climbed Mt. Olympus, here in SLC, the weekend before going to AZ.  Mt. Olympus is slightly longer, and definitely more steeper than Mt. Si in Seattle.   It took 5.5 hours as there was snow on the last third of the trial - which is very steep and difficult to begin with.  It felt awesome!!!

I have held 2 meditations at my house and had really cool people show up.  There seems to be quite a bit of interest, I have almost 40 people that have signed up for my Meetup to get announcements, and am getting over 10 RSVPs for each meeting I post.

It is nice to be back home after a week away.  Sadie, Whitney and I are gong to go on a long hike tomorrow, and then Easter activities this weekend with family.  Will be making chocolate covered strawberries with my Sis for Sunday dinner.

On my trip I got this really cute T-shirt that is a cartoon with a person in hiking gear, a dog, and a camp fire.  The caption says 'Happy Hour'.

Life is good.

The last month has been crazy.  Sick for over 2 weeks (only out of work for one, though it should have been 2), then recovering work, then my dog got super sick - spent evening in dog hospital, then left on my long road trip.  Sheesh.

So here I am in Sedona - Bubbles and Waysofseeing would absolutely love this town if they haven't been here already.  Sadie is with me, and we made a stop in Zion's, Best Friend's rescue society, then spent a restless night on our first camp out together.  She is usually so at home in the mountains I thought it was strange, but this morning found out there are a lot of coyotes around which probably had her on edge.

I am grabbing breakfast, and an internet break, then will be off to a local dog park, then doing some 4-wheeling in my jeep on some cool local trails.

Tuesday-Friday morn I will be at a conference for work down in Yuma.  There is a huge wildlife preserve I am hoping I can take Sadie to while we are there.

OH- and I had my first cello lesson before I left.  WOW.  Better than expectations, and my expectations were high.  This is going to be amazing.

Music!!

My mom is friends with a woman that is in the Utah Symphony, teaches at the UofU, is involved in chamber music, and conducts a youth orchestra.   Due to this connection I have been attending some great free concerts, tonight was the UofU staff recital.  Got to hear a cymbala from Hungaria played - way cool, and a Dvorak quintent (with bass, not piano) which was incredible.  Dvorak wrote some of my favorite chamber music.

Afterwards I went back stage to see my cello teacher from College - who I hadn't seen in 14 years and he remembered my name (which I thought was way cool).  I asked if he was teaching, and he very animatedly told me he was.  I told him I was really rusty, but he replied I was always welcome as a student.  This was a HUGE compliment as he is definitively the best cello teacher in the valley.

Got his number and will probably start lessons in about a month after I have some time to get practicing regularly.  Betwen this and the concert I feel very inspired.

SOOOOO EXCITED!!!!

Music, Meditation, and a new Gathering

Music:  Tonight my sister Tammy, my Mom and I are getting together to play some quartet music minus the viola part.  We decided to try to do this on a regular basis on Wednesday evenings.  I also agreed to play in a little local play along with Tammy.  Everyday I spend time at my piano - got it tuned which made a huge difference.  Feels great to have so much music going on!!

Meditation: Set up our first meditation for February and have had some good response.  It is exciting to be starting this up.

Gathering:  I went to an incredible gathering of people last night that was set up as a spiritual discussion group.  I saw the meeting on the Meetup site, and it listed a bunch of authors I have read and loved like Ekhart Tolle (been reading a lot of him) Neal Walsh, Wayne Dyer, Ram Dass, Celestine Prophecy, Kahlil Gibran etc.  The meeting was beautiful, it was incredible finding people in SLC that have read and are incorporating into their lives the same principles I have found so meaningful.  A couple of them were excited to come to the meditation in two weeks.

Life is beautiful.

House and Meditation

So I got on a big cleaning/rearranging spurt with my house over the past couple of weeks.  Great way to get over the ending of a relationship.  Getting the house ready to start inviting some people over for meditations.

I spent a lot of time looking around the area without finding anything similar to what I used to do in Seattle.  I did find a fellow Osho Sannyasin a while ago that has traveled all over and has a lot of experience with meditating.  She is excited to be involved.  Here is the site: http://premsammasati.com - very simple for now.

Have been spending a lot of time on my piano.  Discovered in last therapy appt. that it helps me feel grounded, which is something I am working on currently.  So happy to have it in my life.

Dream, Colorado and Rush

I had a dream last night in which I saw several people in Seattle.  It was wonderful, and a reminder that I miss my dear friends there.  Life without Kris is good, Sadie and I are adjusting well.  I have picked up where I left off before we started dating, and am really enjoying life again.

Poor Sadie will losing her dearest friend Whitney, and me a wonderful sister, as Kimmi and her husband will be moving to Colorado in May.  He was offered an incredible job - lots of mula - and they have been wanting to move a way for a while.  They will be going to the Grand Junction area which will only be about a 4 hour drive away.

After Spoo's post on Rush, Kimmi, her hubby and I bought tickets for their concert at the Red Rocks amphitheatre.  It is nestled in some incredible rock formations, and we got seats in row 30 right in the middle.  VERY excited to see them as they are the best band I have seen live, and I feel so inspired afterwards.

Geekiness and early impressions

During my first year at MS a mentor I highly respected told me I was incapable of coding and I should never have a job doing it.  This comment has tainted my career for the past 10 years, the back of my brain cataloging incidents as proof of this statement.

Needless to say, this was not a true statement.  It was only recently that I was able to pinpoint when my anxiety around coding began.

Me being me, I have decided it is time to put an end to this falacy.  In my current job I have a new, wonderful mentor with a lot of coding and leading dev projects experience.  Yesterday we sat down to start designing an ASP.NET 2.0 Web Application with an SQL backend.  I took a page of notes on best practices around designing a Database.  I spent almost 2 hours reading a book before going to bed about Design Patterns in object oriented coding - BECAUSE I WANTED TO!

This is a major turning point for me, and I am so excited to have taken a big step forward.

I  have finally certified in something from MS!  It was a hard test, harder than what people took last spring.  I am very proud of getting a passing score.

Excerpt to explain what I certifed in:
The Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 – Configuration certification highlights your area of expertise and validates the knowledge and skills required to configure and deploy Office SharePoint Server 2007. If you have the MCTS: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007– Configuration credential, you typically have an understanding of how to configure SharePoint Server 2007, and you have a general understanding of SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005 and .NET 2.0 as they relate to SharePoint Server 2007.

Yay!

Symphony - Yay!

Attended the Utah symphony Saturday evening - it was incredible.  I had forgotten what fine musicians they have been able to recruit.  It was fun to see two past teachers of mine, my orchestra director from high school, and my high school rival cellist on stage.  My mom also has a dear friend in the symphony whose husband is also in it whom I have spent time with.

The following music was played:
György Ligeti Concert Romanesque
Aram Khachaturian Concerto for Violin
Antonín Dvořák Symphony No. 7 in D minor Op. 70
Full Program

The Ligeti piece was incredible - more of a modern peice, the rythm was frightening.  I honestly don't know if I could have played some of it, at least not without A LOT of practice.

Karen Gomyo is a 28 year old violinist, and the Khachaturian is one of the hardest peices in the violin repetoir.  She had some interesting interpretations to it, and was amazingly well played.  The sad part was she was so stiff and jerky with her body - I could not watch her during her performance.  I am amazed someone at her level of playing has not corrected this.

Karen Gomyo

Dvorak is always incredible, and the orchestra did a beautiful job of it.

Sadie and the Boots

Doggy
Sadie was having issues with her paws and the snow and the cold, so I bought her dog boots.  While I thought this was a great idea, apparently she did not.  One kept twisting around, we almost lost another one, and every once in a while she would stop and try to lick one of the front ones off - ?

Thankfully a fellow dog owner at the dog park were trying them out at told me all her feet needed was vaseline.  This supposedly stops the cracking, bleeding, and snowballs between the toes.  We are going to try that out tomorrow.

Tammy was only in labor for just over 2 hours, pushed for 30 minutes, and one of the most beautiful babies I have ever seen entered this world.  Got to hold her quite a bit, it was wonderful.

Had a fantastic trip up to Seattle last weekend.  Thanks again to everyone for the hospitality and joining me to eat my way around the city.  This week has been crazy busy, and yet I am not sure why.   It has helped me lose the 2-3 pounds I gained on my visit ;)

Shantala canceled the Kirtan (sat. concert) but the Sunday workshop was lovely.  I am finding myself very attracted to chanting, and stumbled into a Kundalini Yoga workshop that incorporates chants into the yoga session.  It was a beautiful experience.

Saw my new doctor yesterday - an MD that is into accupuncture and whole body healing.  Will be working with me to clear up my asthma, and get my immune system properly fighting cold germs.  I am enthusiastic after meeting with him at the real possibility of enjoying better health in the near future.

With the weather being bad where I am at, and no certain RSVPs I am going to cancel the brunch plans for tomorrow morning.  It has been fabulous seeing you all, definitely will bring Kris next time.
